New Wynyard Marine Rescue Vessels Launch

The Wynyard Marine Rescue Unit has launched two new rescue vessels to assist its emergency operations.

Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government was a proud supporter of Volunteer Marine Rescue.

“Volunteer Marine Rescue units do incredibly important work ensuring Tasmanians are safe in and around our waterways,” Minister Duigan said.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are proud to have committed $1 million to volunteer marine rescue vehicles, trailers and vessels across the State.

“This funding will enable units to continue supporting Tasmanians for the next century.

“Our Government is eager for Tasmanians to be able to get out and enjoy the water, but to do so in a safe manner, this commitment goes a long way to making that happen.”

Liberal Member for Braddon, Roger Jaensch said our Volunteer Marine Rescue services play an important role in our community.

“From marine safety education in the community to emergency support when something goes wrong, these volunteers are here for the North West Coast,” Minister Jaensch said.

“I was pleased to see the Wynyard Marine Rescue Unit put their share of our Government’s funding towards these two Highfield rigid inflatable vessels.

“Having the right equipment can make can make all the difference the next time a search and rescue event takes place in our community.”

The Wynyard Marine Rescue Unit is currently in the planning stages for a search and rescue training exercise in May.
