Newbury, OBrien: Labors Emergency Tax D-Day

D-Day for Labor’s Emergency Services Tax

The Liberals and Nationals urge the Upper House to today kill off the Allan Labor Government’s latest massive tax grab.

Labor is attempting to ram the new emergency services tax through Parliament, but common sense and fairness must prevail.

With D-Day arriving, and debate looming in the Upper House, cross benchers have the opportunity to support us and scrap the tax.

The tax will hit homeowners, businesses and farmers – and cost Victorians an extra $2.1 billion over the next three years at a time of a cost-of-living crisis.

Shadow Treasurer, James Newbury, called on Upper House MPs to vote down the tax.

“It’s a dog of a tax,” Mr Newbury said.

“This is a tax forcing Victorians to pay extra for what are core government services.”

Danny O’Brien, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, said Labor was attempting to ram through its 60th new or increased tax at the height of a cost-of-living crisis.

“This is a sneaky, insidious tax and the cross benchers in the Upper House must come with us on this and make sure it never sees the light of day,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The emergency services tax will fund back-office administration rather than bolster frontline services.

“Labor can’t manage money and Victorians are paying the price.”
