Night Roadworks Begin on Lord Baden Powell Drive
Works are set to get underway shortly on a new civil works program for the rehabilitation and renewal of several heavily used roads in the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area.
At its Ordinary Meeting at the end of April, Council awarded the tender for a package of road reconstruction works covering seven locations across the city and its suburbs.
Senior Project Manager Krishan Maharaj says the program will commence on Monday 12 May, with night works on a section of the eastern end of Lord Baden Powell Drive, weather permitting.
“These works will be carried out as night works in an effort to minimise traffic disruptions on this busy stretch of the road, between the Lake Albert Road intersection and Wilks Avenue,” Mr Maharaj said.
“While there will be lane closures, the road will remain open during the works, with traffic control and detours in place to help maintain access to properties where possible.”
The works will be carried out between 6pm and 6am and are expected to be completed by Thursday 15 May 2025.
The program of works comprises several key roads and intersections which see a lot of commuter and commercial traffic.
In addition to the section of Lord Baden Powell Drive, the list includes Tompson Street (between Best and Peter streets), and Trail Street (between Johnston and Gurwood street) along with the intersections at Red Hill Road/Missouri Ave, Lake Albert Road/Railway Street, Edison Road/Bakers Lane, and Edison Road/Dangar Place.
“Some of the roads identified for reconstruction in this package have been reaching the end of their lifespan and have become a patchwork quilt of repairs to potholes, ” Mr Maharaj said.
“They require replacement with a new deep lift asphalt pavement, creating a smoother and stronger surface for the travelling public.”
The night works on Lord Baden Powell Drive will be followed by night works on the section of Tompson Street, on Thursday 15 May and Friday 16 May, again weather permitting.
The road will be closed during the works, with traffic control and detours in place to help maintain access to properties where possible.
