Nighttime Maintenance Affects Light Rail Service

Nighttime Maintenance Affects Light Rail Service

Important maintenance will occur on the light rail network between Alinga Street and Sandford Street stops during the evening over a five-night period from Sunday 23 March to Thursday 27 March 2025.

To minimise service impacts on Transport Canberra customers, works will only be undertaken at night in off-peak periods between 7:30 pm and 5:30 am.

During the maintenance period, buses will operate as rail replacement services between Alinga Street and Sandford Street stops in Mitchell.

There will be an additional opportunity to transfer at the Well Station Drive stop. Customers are encouraged to transfer at this stop due to the quick access to the rail replacement bus stop. Customers headed to the city will still be able to transfer at Sandford Street if they do not transfer at Well Station Drive.

The last direct light rail service will depart at 7:15 pm from Gungahlin Place and 7:45 pm from Alinga Street each night. Usual services will resume the following morning.

Customers will be able to board rail replacement buses at stops located adjacent to the light rail platforms. Light rail stops north of Mitchell will remain unaffected throughout the shutdown and services will run between Sandford Street and Gungahlin Place as usual.

The maintenance works involve routine repair and improvements to the concrete track slab along the light rail corridor.

Additional tree pruning out-of-hours works in the light rail corridor will be undertaken during the same period from Monday 24 March to Thursday 27 March 2025. This is to restore critical safety clearances between tree branches and the overhead wire along Northbourne Avenue between the Phillip Avenue and Alinga Street stops.

The tree pruning will have no impacts to road traffic or pedestrians, however there will be times when the works may be noisy.
