Northern Economy Celebrating Times Like These

The Foo Fighters’ only Australian concert has delivered a significant boost to Northern Tasmania’s economy.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said flights have been added, pubs are open extended hours and hotels are booked out.

“What an incredible long weekend in Northern Tasmania,” Premier Rockliff said.

“The Foo Fighters one-off Australian concert at UTAS Stadium has drawn people from all over the country, with more than 25,000 travellers coming through the airport this weekend.

“We know this concert has been the catalyst for an epic weekend, with an expected return on investment of 11:1.

“The Plough Inn is one of the many great family-owned hospitality businesses that is reaping the benefits.

“Businesses across the North are seeing more money in the till, putting on staff for more hours and seeing the benefits of a strong economy.”

Visitors spend more than $3.5 billion in Tasmania each year, and events like the Foo Fighters draw travellers from across the country.

“I want to thank all those who have worked to keep Tasmanians entertained, fed and safe over the long weekend,” Premier Rockliff said.

“Our Liberal Government is making strong investments to keep growing our economy, supporting Tasmania’s record low unemployment, and make our State the best place to live, work, do business and raise a family.”
