NSW Energy Upgrades for 13,500 Households

Around 13,500 New South Wales households will benefit from energy upgrades under the expansion of the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI).

The Australian Government is investing $145.3 million for energy-saving upgrades across social housing properties in New South Wales. This includes thermal shell upgrades such as insulation and draught sealing, and the installation of:

Upgrades will enable households to reduce energy consumption, save money on their energy bills and improve their thermal comfort.

The announcement comes as part of the $500 million expansion of the initiative announced in November 2024.

The commitment to NSW builds on the Australian Government’s $87.5 million investment under the initial SHEPI program.

With the expansion, the program will enable more than 100,000 social housing properties across Australia to save on energy bills and reduce emissions each year.

The Australian Government is working with all states and territories on the SHEPI Expansion. Some states and territories will build on and expand existing programs. Others will launch pilot programs designed to scale to expand over time.
