On the 8th of February, 1967 Gough Whitlam became the leader of the Australian Labor Party, eventually becoming Prime Minster in 1972.
Whitlam's landmark reforms modernised Australia. Universal healthcare, free university education, rights for women and land rights for Indigenous Australians is just a small snippet of Whitlam's impact.
Today, Gough Whitlam is a reminder of what a strong Labor Government can achieve.
