Live updates for Waterfall Way

Motorists using Waterfall Way are about to get real-time information about road conditions to help them plan their journeys.

Nationals Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey said permanent electronic message boards are to be installed at six locations between Armidale and Bellingen to let drivers know about work being carried out or conditions on the road.

“Knowing what to expect on the road, and having real time information will be priceless information for motorists when travelling on Waterfall Way,” Ms Pavey said.

“We all know that Waterfall Way can be affected by heavy rainfall, landslips and by road improvement work being carried at various locations, but knowing what to expect means people can delay or change their travel plans to minimise potential disruptions.”

Nationals Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said the new signs would provide a more reliable journey for motorists.

“This is about ensuring real time information for motorists travelling in the region,” Mr Marshall said.

“Work on installation is expected to start in this month and be completed by November, weather permitting.”

Nationals Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway the government was funding a range of work along Waterfall Way to ensure the road remained accessible to the community.

“Natural disaster recovery funding, general maintenance and road safety funding has been added to the $50 million NSW Government Waterfall Way package to ensure we are building resilience into our road network,” Mr Farraway said.

“Our current focus is on safety and disaster recovery work, including widening the road, installing or upgrading safety barriers, intersection improvements and installing slow vehicle lanes.”

Work along Waterfall Way currently underway includes:

  • Ongoing work to widen and improve the road between Pump Station and Fernridge Lane
  • Safety improvement work at Bakers Creek
  • Road widening work between Rabbit eradication fence and Ebor Tip
  • Ongoing work on slow vehicle passing lanes and culvert replacement between Thora and Dorrigo
  • Pavement works from Appledale to Scotsburn
  • Heavy patching work at various locations
