Multi-million dollar upgrade delivered for Monaro High
Monaro families are celebrating the delivery of the multi-million-dollar upgrade to Monaro High School that now provides some of the best facilities in southern NSW.
Nationals Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell, Deputy Nationals Leader and local MLC Bronnie Taylor and Nationals Member for Monaro Nichole Overall were at the school to officially open and tour the $45 million upgraded facilities.
Ms Mitchell said the NSW Government continues to invest heavily in regional education with more than $420 million to deliver 12 new and upgraded school projects across Monaro including upgrades at Queanbeyan High School, Karabar High School and Braidwood Central School.
“The NSW Nationals in government are delivering public education infrastructure in every corner of the state to ensure students in NSW have access to modern facilities designed specifically for their community needs,” Ms Mitchell said.
“The government is ensuring that no matter where students live, they have access to modern facilities like these here at Monaro High School.”
Students at Monaro High have been using new facilities such as the performance centre, innovation hub, and upgraded metal and woodwork spaces since the start of term 4.
Mrs Overall said she was very impressed with the completed facilities, and excited to see students in their amazing learning environment.
“These are some of the most impressive facilities we have in the Monaro, and it’s fantastic our students will now be able to make the most of the opportunities this will provide,” Mrs Overall said.
“The performance centre will inspire students in their educational journey with the project providing access to high-quality facilities that the students and teachers deserve.”
Mrs Taylor said we want our students to be inspired when they come to school and that is exactly what this upgrade will achieve.
“From the two-storey performing arts centre that we’re opening today to the 31 new innovative learning spaces that include specialised learning spaces for art, performance and technology – this upgrade will benefit generations to come,” Mrs Taylor said.
The NSW Government is investing $8.6 billion in school infrastructure over the next four years, continuing its program to deliver 160 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. This builds on the more than $9.1 billion invested in projects delivered since 2017, a program of $17.7 billion in public education infrastructure.
