NT Leaders Spotlight National Energy Scene

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is in Brisbane this week to fly the flag for the Northern Territory at the 2025 Australian Energy Producers Conference and Exhibition.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said the event presented a huge chance to continue key discussions with leading energy explorers and producers to help secure long-term opportunities for the Territory.

“Deputy Chief Minister Gerard Maley and I will be travelling to the event, and this is an exciting opportunity to showcase the Northern Territory’s immense potential and critical role in securing Australia’s energy future,” said Mrs Finocchiaro.

“2025 is our year of action, certainty and security and we have committed to rebuilding the Territory’s economy which is exactly what we’re doing.”

As part of the conference, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Mining and Energy Gerard Maley will host an exclusive industry breakfast – NT Government’s Breakfast with the Beetaloo – bringing together national stakeholders to highlight the Territory’s strategic advantages in energy production.

Mrs Finocchiaro will take part in the conference as a keynote panellist on the Seismic Shifts: Gas, Exploration and the Economy panel, alongside Sue McCarrey (CEO, National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority), Senator Susan McDonald, Andrew Richards (CEO, Energy Users Association of Australia), and Darren Stevenson (CEO, Senex Energy).

Mr Maley was looking forward to welcoming leading energy experts, producers, researchers, suppliers, and industry leaders from across Australia and around the world.

“This is an opportunity to highlight the NT’s abundant resources, strong regulatory framework, and a government which backs responsible development,” he said.

“We are uniquely positioned to help solve the east coast energy crisis and drive national energy security with the Beetaloo Sub-basin estimated to hold enough gas to meet Australia’s energy needs for the next 200 years.

“The Finocchiaro CLP Government is providing the support and investment certainty industry needs to act with confidence. Our message is simple: the Territory is open for business.”

The event will bring together key players including Santos, the Australian Energy Producers Association, the Menzies Research Centre, and representatives from more than 120 innovative companies.

The forum is also a chance to reinforce the Territory’s year of action, certainty and security for the gas industry, making the Northern Territory one of the best places in Australia to work and invest.

Highlighting the importance of the Beetaloo Sub-basin, Tamboran Resources is investing $100 million here through capital raising ($85 million) and an acreage agreement with Daly Waters Energy ($15 million).

The Finocchiaro CLP Government has also reaffirmed its commitment to the Territory Energy Link here stretching from Elliott to Darwin.

It will deliver a buried services corridor designed to carry gas, water, optical fibre, hydrogen and other utilities critical to the Territory’s future.

The energy link will connect the Beetaloo to Darwin and the world, laying the foundations for billions of dollars in investment and thousands of local jobs.
