Ontario Resident Gets 12-Month Sentence for Firearm Crimes
Following a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) firearm smuggling investigation, on January 15, 2026, Jamaal Shaquille McCallum, a resident of Scarborough, ON, has pled guilty to the following offences under the Criminal Code:
He has been sentenced in the Ontario Court of Justice to 12-months imprisonment, 24-months probation, and issued a lifetime firearms ban.
In February of 2024, CBSA's Ontario Firearm Smuggling Enforcement Team (OFSET) launched an investigation into McCallum. The investigation began after two packages containing firearm parts, mailed from China, were intercepted by Border Services Officers at the International Mail Processing Centre in Mississauga, ON. Both packages were destined to McCallum's residence in Scarborough, ON.
On April 24, 2024, CBSA's OFSET Investigators, with the assistance of Toronto Police's Emergency Task Force, executed search warrants at McCallum's residence. He was arrested and charged by OFSET with several offences under the Customs Act and the Criminal Code.
The CBSA is keeping Canadian communities safe by intercepting firearms and illegal weapons from entering Canada. Firearms, firearm parts, and weapons are high-risk commodities, and the identification of illicit movement and interdiction of these commodities is an enforcement priority of the CBSA. CBSA officers are Canada's first line of defense in preventing illegal weapons and other contraband from entering Canada.
