Penfold Pledges $1.5M for Comboyne Club Upgrade
A commitment to provide $1.475 million funding for a major upgrade of Comboyne’s Ex-Servicemen’s & Citizens Club under a Coalition Government will drive new tourism, business, and economic development for the entire region.
Nationals candidate for Lyne, Alison Penfold, said her commitment to support the planned expansion of the club would help cover the cost of upgrading the club’s facilities, making them fully accessible to all members of the community.
Major capital works will include construction of a disability access car park and ramp, a new roof which can accommodate solar panels, upgrades to bathrooms, improved air conditioning, installing a new children’s playground, upgrading the existing verandah, replacement of the electrical switchboard, an upgrade of the bar area, and a total repaint.
“Comboyne is a real jewel in the region’s crown, and the Comboyne Ex-Servicemen’s & Citizens Club is at the heart of it all as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. However, despite being one of the fastest growing areas of the state our hinterland is under-serviced in terms of community and family facilities,” Ms Penfold said.
“The project’s focus is on making the club more accessible to the wider community and making necessary improvements, so it will be more environmentally sustainable.
“Given Comboyne is only 30 minutes from the Pacific and Oxley Highways and an hour from Port Macquarie Regional Airport, this upgrade will enhance the entire region’s tourism offering and in particular the local hinterland – all of which will make an enormous difference in terms of local business activity and economic growth.
“In the short term, it will create and support many local trades and in the longer-term support jobs at the Club and other hospitality venues in the region.”
Ms Penfold said The Nationals were the only party that identified, worked on and delivered projects that had their genesis in regional communities.
“The Nationals have our finger on the pulse of our communities and understand that sometimes smaller communities can’t achieve what’s on their wish list without targeted and strategic investment from other levels of government. By committing to these projects if elected to Government, we’ll be able to get them underway as fast as possible.”
Ms Penfold said the commitment was part of her big-picture plan to create stronger, safer and better communities for Lyne through investment in social infrastructure.
