It’s been an incredibly valuable experience over the last few days listening and learning from indigenous leaders about how we can make lives in remote communities better.
Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price and I have heard some harrowing stories from elders and families living in camps. But we also saw some great things happening in local schools, and in towns and communities where hard-working locals had applied their efforts and succeeded.
For many decades, governments of all persuasions have had good intentions when they’ve invested in indigenous communities. But we need to do better in making a difference on the ground. This is the challenge for us all.
