Planning Ahead: Draft Budget And Financial Plan Now
Council also acknowledges growing community concern around the State Government’s proposed Emergency Services and Volunteer Fund (ESVF). While Council strongly supports local CFA, SES and Triple Zero volunteers who deliver critical, life-saving services, the added financial pressure from this levy will be felt by households already impacted by rising costs. Council is legally required to collect this levy on behalf of the State Government and does not receive or retain any of these funds.
“Council is seeking further clarity on how this levy will be distributed and is supporting advocacy efforts to ensure that money raised locally is returned fairly to support Moira Shire’s local emergency services,” Mr Morgan said.
“These financial challenges, along with inflation and increased service demands, highlight the importance of long-term planning and ongoing consultation with the community. Council is committed to working transparently with residents to ensure decisions reflect the priorities and values of our region.”
Council is now inviting feedback from the community. Both the Draft Financial Plan and Draft Budget are available for review on the Moira Matters website, and submissions are open until Wednesday 28 May 2025. https://www.moiramatters.com.au/building-our-moira
