Amy MacMahon’s Speech on Raising the Age of Criminal Responsibility

10 year old children belong in playgrounds and classrooms, they belong in their communities, connected to their families and culture. They deserve to be supported and helped to reach their full potential in life.

But instead of investing in the services and support to help kids that are doing it tough, our government locks them up – kids as young as 10 can be thrown in jail in Queensland.

Our minimum age of criminal responsibility is out of line with international standards. So the Greens introduced a Bill to raise the age of criminal responsibility in Queensland to 14.
