Bernadette’s story
This is happening right here in Brisbane in 2018.
Bernadette, a mother of 3, will be made to leave Australia with her two teenage daughters. She will be forced to leave behind her 8 year old son who was born here. His Australian father has partial custody, so the boy can’t leave the country. The family will be separated permanently.
Australian law is meant to protect families. In cases like this, the minister responsible for immigration, Peter Dutton, can step in at any time to keep Bernadette’s family together. They have applied to become permanent residents for the last 6 years but the department keeps refusing then. Now time is running out.
