Thanks so much to everyone who donated much-needed school supplies to the Back to School fete in Raymond Park 🙂 It helped so many families struggling to make ends meet <3 More from Amy MacMahon - Greens MP for South Brisbane: A big thanks to everyone who came down to our Back to School fete in Raymond Park on the weekend 🥰📔🖍 We managed to give away a literal truckload 🛻 of school supplies (a big thanks to Dave from East Brisbane express who volunteered with logistics), with dozens of kids heading off with new school bags, lunch boxes, books, pens, folders, highlighters, colouring-in pencils and pencil cases. We know that for many families, the cost of living is hitting hard, and school expenses can be a huge burden. From our recent survey of over 700 Queensland parents and carers, it is costing families about $1300 per year to cover costs for a child at a state primary school, and about $2050 for a child at a state high school - for things like uniforms, resources, music, sports, and laptops. Many parents and carers told us that there are things they just can't afford, and many have had to go on payment plans, take out personal loans, or get help from family members just to cover school costs. In a wealthy state like Queensland, this shouldn't be the case. We could fully fund schools, and cover all out of pocket expenses for Queensland families, and make sure every Queensland kid has the best start in life. Head to the link below to get involved in our campaign to fully fund Queensland schools.
