Queensland Police Aviation Teams Up With Juiced TV

The Queensland Police Service’s Police Air Operations (POLAIR) and Queensland Government Air (QGAir) recently teamed up with Juiced TV to give three incredibly brave young people an up close and personal experience of life in the pilot’s seat.

Launched in 2015 at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Juiced TV is made by the kids in hospital, for the kids in hospital and seeks to brighten the hospital experience for children across the state, by delivering weekly episodes for them to watch, enjoy and be part of.

Crews from both POLAIR and QGAir partnered with the show to create cherished memories for three children, who each have their own experiences with rescue services and aviation.

The event offered a powerful moment of reflection, not only the children and their families, but more-so, for the members of POLAIR and QGAir.

Reflecting on the unique occasion, POLAIR crew member Senior Constable Kellie Brooks spoke of the important opportunity it provided to form relationships between children and police officers.

“Working with children, especially through programs such as Juiced TV, allows us as police officers to provide children in hospital a positive and enriching experience and give them a rare glimpse into the world of aerial policing,” Senior Constable Brooks said.

“It is important for children to understand that police are there to help and protect them, so opportunities like this are crucial to build trust and foster a sense of safety.

“It was an honour and a privilege to have met such inspiring children and for them to see and experience part of what we do. I hope their experience has left them with a positive and lasting impression.”

The special event saw the kids learn about the safety equipment used in rescue missions, experience flying a helicopter by testing the flight simulation, sit in the pilot’s seat, learn the intricacies of airborne law enforcement and more.

Senior Sergeant Shane Cooke, who played a vital role in the coordination of the event and welcoming the children to base, said the experience was not only a great opportunity for the children, but for the wider team too.

“In our line of work, Police are exposed to a number of high stresses and negative situations, so to have these children – who are facing medical challenges that take huge amounts of strength and bravery – come to our base and see their faces light up with genuine enthusiasm, is so incredibly rewarding,” Senior Sergeant Cooke said.

“For the aircraft crew members involved, it was an opportunity to share their passion and insight, while connecting with community members who have been directly helped by these services.”

Juiced TV Head of Programs and Impact Elin Reeves commented on how much fun everyone had making the episode.

“Our Juiced TV visit to Queensland Police POLAIR and QGAir was a truly memorable experience for the families who attended from our hospital community,” Elin Reeves said.

“The kids learnt so much and were super impressed by the helicopters and crews!

“This experience was both fun and educational, not just for the young people there on the day, but for many more young people in hospital watching our episode.”

“This is the first time Juiced TV has featured both police and rescue helicopters in one episode together – it was an exciting, hands-on experience that gave the kids a real look into what these teams do.”
