Racing Review Submission Deadline Extended

Racing Review Submission Deadline Extended

The Crisafulli Government has announced an extension of the deadline for submissions to its landmark review into all three codes of racing in Queensland to Monday, April 7.

The Queensland Racing Review discussion paper was set to close on March 30, but the deadline has been extended by a week to encourage more racing stakeholders to make their voices heard.

The discussion paper has had a huge response with 480 submissions received since it opened at the start of the month.

The Racing Review is designed to ensure the long-term viability of racing in Queensland with a focus on financial stability, animal welfare standards, infrastructure, country racing and collaboration across the industry.

Minister for Racing Tim Mander said the response to the discussion paper so far was encouraging but he wanted to hear from as many people as possible.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response to the Racing Review so far, but some participants have asked for more time to provide their response,” Minister Mander said.

“This is an industry that contributes $2.4 billion per year to the Queensland economy and employs around 16,000 Queenslanders, so we want to make sure everybody has their say.

“The discussion paper is the entire industry’s chance to be heard, so I encourage every trainer, jockey, driver, breeder, owner, administrator, punter, and fan to make a submission.

“The Racing Review will lay the platform to ensure the industry is financially stable, acts with integrity and has appropriate facilities, so I encourage all stakeholders and participants to have their say before the deadline on 7 April.”
