Reeling In Grants: Fresh Funding For NT Fishos

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering for recreational fishers, awarding almost $100,000 in grant funding to seven local organisations through the 2025 Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme (NTRFGS).

Minister for Recreational Fishing Gerard Maley said the grants will deliver a range of projects that directly support recreational fishing opportunities and restore the Territory’s unique lifestyle.

“This grants program backs not-for-profit organisations who are passionate about growing recreational fishing and making it more accessible for all Territorians, whether you’re out on the water or enjoying land-based fishing, Mr Maley said.

“Fishing is an iconic part of the Territory lifestyle, boosting local tourism and contributing over $140 million to our economy each year.”

Round 1 of the 2025 NTRFGS focused on small grants of up to $15,000, with a total of just over $99,000 awarded to deliver nine community-driven projects.

Projects funded in this round include:

The Katherine Game Fishing Club’s 2025 Kids Fishing Fun DayThe Council on the Ageing’s Reel Connections initiative for senior Territorians, andThe Palmerston Game Fishing Club’s popular Buddy Boats Day, which gives young Territorians with disabilities the chance to enjoy a day of fishing on the water.

Mr Maley said the grants program is delivering on the CLP Government’s year of action, certainty and security.

“These projects strengthen our fishing culture and ensure that more people, including seniors and young Territorians with disabilities, get the chance to experience everything our world-class waterways have to offer,” he said.

Since it began in 2018, the NTRFGS has awarded $1.16 million to a wide range of Territory projects that boost recreational fishing experiences and support the growth of the sector.

Round 2 of the 2025 program, offering grants of up to $75,000 for larger-scale projects, is due to open in August.
