Reminder: Annual Pet Registrations Due
Pet-owning residents are reminded that today (10 April) is the annual date for renewing the registration of your animal with Council – regardless of what date the pet was originally registered.
Registration enables Council to provide facilities such as dog parks and shelters, as well as reuniting lost pets with their owners.
Dogs and cats over three months of age must be microchipped and registered with Council as per the Domestic Animals Act 1994. Microchipping and registering greatly improves your pet’s chances of being returned to you if they become lost. To assist with identification, cats and dogs must wear their registration tag at all times. If being registered for the first time, dogs and cats must be microchipped before registration.
You are eligible for reduced registration fees if your pet is de-sexed, has an obedience certificate issued by a Government approved organization, is over 10 years of age, is kept for working stock, or is kept for breeding by the proprietor of a registered domestic animal business.
Pensioners who have approved concession cards issued by the Department of Social Services and Department of Veterans’ Affairs are also entitled to a reduction in their fees.
Registration fees are set by Council, and vary depending on a number of factors including those stated above. To find out which fee applies to your pet or to pay online, visit the Pet Ownership page on Council’s website or contact Council’s Customer Service team on 5355 0200.
