Retail Trade Continues To Break Records In Tasmania

Monthly retail trade in Tasmania is continuing to break records, reaching an all time high of $741.6 million in January 2025.

The 12 months to January 2025 showed retail trade in Tasmania reached $8.74 billion – another record.

Treasurer, Guy Barnett, said confident consumers create confident businesses.

“This continued and sustained growth in retail trade is incredibly important,” the Treasurer said.

“It means money in the back pocket of our businesses allowing them to invest and grow.

“On an annual basis, Tasmania’s retail trade is a massive 65 per cent higher than it was for the 12 months prior to us coming to Government in 2014, and everyday Tasmanians are the winners.

“Over the course of 12 months that is $8.74 billion spent in Tasmanian businesses big and small.

“We are backing business, backing jobs and backing the economy and this continued growth is a positive outcome.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we will continue to deliver a stronger economy for all Tasmanians.”
