Scott Oval Scores $300,000 Boost For Lighting Upgrade
Cobram’s Scott Oval is set to shine brighter, thanks to a $365,000 project to improve lighting infrastructure through a partnership between the Victorian Government and Moira Shire Council.
The Victorian Government has contributed $224,898 through the Country Football and Netball Program, Moira Shire Council has contributed $80,000 and the Cobram Football Netball Club has also provided $60,000.
The project will support the replacement of outdated lighting towers at the popular sporting facility, home to the Cobram Football Netball Club, with modern infrastructure that meets the current standards for competitive sports.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of quality facilities in fostering community engagement in sport.
“Upgrading sporting facilities is essential for promoting active lifestyles and strengthening our communities,” Dr Emonson said.
“This significant investment at Scott Oval will ensure local clubs have access to modern, high-quality infrastructure that meets their growing needs while encouraging greater participation in sport across the region.”
Cobram Football Netball Club spokesperson Rob Allen said the funding would resolve a long-standing issue with the oval’s lighting system.
“The current lighting towers are so outdated that we can’t even source replacement globes anymore,” Mr Allen said.
“This upgrade will provide proper training facilities, which is crucial for keeping our young footballers engaged locally rather than having them travel to other towns with better facilities.
“With new lighting, we’ll be able to expand our junior programs and create more opportunities for young people to participate in sports right here in Cobram. This is a game- changer for the club.”
