The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland’s screen sector with a new Chair and Board members appointed to lead Screen Queensland.

Patricia Alner will take the reins as Chair of the Board of Screen Queensland, alongside prominent and experienced leaders, John Kotzas AM, Venesa Gleeson and John Morris.

The four appointees bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to lead Screen Queensland into its next chapter and accelerate its mission to grow a globally competitive screen industry in Queensland.

Incoming Chair, Ms Alner will bring her strength in governance, financial management, compliance and information technology to the role.

She has previously served as Chair of Screen Queensland’s Audit and Risk Committee and is the current Director of Strategy and Planning for Bond University.

A respected figure in the arts, John Kotzas AM served as Chief Executive of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for 16 years before retiring from the role in 2024.

He was the Brisbane Festival’s first Managing Director and has been acknowledged for his 40-year contribution to Australia’s arts and cultural sector with numerous honours and awards, including an Order of Australia.

Venesa Gleeson is Special Counsel at legal firm Suthers Taylor. She has a strong background in corporate governance, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Venesa previously served as Senior Legal Counsel for Walker Corporation for more than 20 years.

John Morris has extensive leadership experience in the tourism and hospitality industries, fulfilling senior management roles, including as General Manager of RACV Resorts Queensland properties.

John has also held Board Director positions with Destination Queensland and Airports Vanuatu.

Ms Alner, Ms Gleeson, Mr Kotzas and Mr Morris join continuing Screen Queensland Board members Lynne Benzie, Professor Scott Harrison, Cathy Hunt AM and Carla McGrath.

The Crisafulli Government’s $75.8 million Arts Budget lays the foundation for a fresh start, with more than $40 million to back the screen sector and keep cameras rolling in Queensland, as well as $9.4 million to boost regional arts experiences and $10 million to fund upgrades across Queensland’s Cultural Centre.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said Screen Queensland’s new Board appointments brought renewed energy, vision and broad expertise spanning the arts, cultural, tourism and corporate sectors.

“Queensland’s reputation as a screen hub continues to grow and I have full confidence our new Board has the vision and expertise to put us on the map as a global production powerhouse,” Minister Langbroek said.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Ms Alner to the role of Chair, and Ms Gleeson, Mr Kotzas and Mr Morris as new Directors, who will collectively bring their real-world experience to the Screen Queensland Board.

“With their diverse backgrounds and strong leadership credentials, I’m confident Screen Queensland will continue to drive our State’s screen and games industries forward, creating jobs for Queenslanders and sharing our stories with the world.

“I would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to retiring Board Chair, The Hon Roslyn Atkinson AO, and retiring Directors Aaron Fa’Aoso, Dylan Miklashek and Kylee Ratz for their leadership and significant contributions.”
