Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm
Transforming Australia into a hydrogen powerhouse
Assistant Minister for Education, Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm, today launched the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy (GlobH2E), in Sydney.
Led by the University of NSW, the ARC Training Centre is aiming to support Australia’s transformation into a world-leading hydrogen powerhouse through industry collaboration and developing new research-based engineering and business skills.
Through the ARC, GlobH2E is one of five Industrial Transformation Training Centres that were awarded $24.3 million in funding for the 2020 round.
Senator Chisholm said that the ARC Training Centre’s research is a great example of the dividends paid from the Government’s investment in research that will inform strategic industry outcomes and benefit the Australian community.
“The research outcomes of this ARC Training Centre will strengthen Australia’s position to capitalise on the emerging global growth of hydrogen and will address the challenge of securing our energy future while addressing climate change,” Senator Chisholm said.
“This Training Centre will be a focal point for collaboration between universities and industry partners and will equip a future workforce of industry-focused engineers.
“The ARC is critical to enabling the national research system to deliver excellent research by supporting Australia’s highest quality fundamental and applied research and research training.”
ARC Training Centres, funded under the ARC’s Industrial Transformation Research Program, increase collaboration between the most innovative researchers and industries vital to Australia’s future
The ARC Training Centre is receiving $4.9 million in ARC funding over five years, as well as $3.3 million in cash and $6.6 million in-kind contributions from participating organisations.
