Visit to Singapore and Malaysia
This week I will travel to Singapore and Malaysia to lead a delegation on Australia’s first-ever Business Mission as part of the Australia-Southeast Asia Business Exchange program. Southeast Asia is at the centre of global economic growth. Focused on the clean energy transition and maritime decarbonisation, this landmark Business Mission demonstrates the Albanese Government’s commitment to increase two-way trade and investment between Australia and Southeast Asia.
The Australia-Southeast Asia Business Exchange program is a key initiative recommended by Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040
Australia and Singapore’s friendship is anchored in warm personal ties, trust, and respect. Our ambitious agenda and shared priorities are highlighted by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which will mark its 10th anniversary in 2025.
We also share a productive trading relationship, with Singapore being our fifth largest trading partner globally. I look forward to meeting with government and business officials in Singapore to scope further opportunities for economic collaboration.
Australia’s economic and trade relationship with Malaysia is mature and complementary, and we are committed to working together to fully realise its economic potential.
In Malaysia, I will meet with government officials, investors, and industry leaders to discuss how we can unlock economic opportunities for our countries and the region. I also look forward to engaging further with Australian businesses who are successfully investing in Malaysia’s high-end tech industries, including Cochlear and AirTrunk.
