Small Group Tuition Boosts Teacher-Student Support
Students in 350 Western Australian public schools will receive additional targeted literacy and numeracy support, with Small Group Tuition to be rolled out to help address learning gaps of students.
Education Minister Sabine Winton today announced the 350 WA public schools selected for the rollout of Small Group Tuition, which will help to address learning gaps of students. A total of $21.8 million has been committed to the initiative over two years.
This initiative will help to address the specific learning gaps of up to 13,000 students in need of additional support with literacy and numeracy, while also reducing complexity and workload for their regular classroom teachers.
Small Group Tuition teachers will plan and deliver evidence-based interventions that help to address the specific literacy and numeracy support needs of identified students.
Their work will include undertaking a plan for students, implementing processes to monitor student progress, reporting student progress and achievement to classroom teachers, parents and caregivers, and maintaining regular communication with classroom teachers.
The funding is being provided through a landmark agreement with the Albanese Labor Government that will deliver an estimated additional $1.6 billion in Federal and State funding from 2025 to 2029 for WA’s public school system.
The rollout and impact of this new support for schools will be monitored by the Workload Intensification Taskforce, which forms part of the Cook Government’s ongoing commitment to reduce workload pressures for teachers and school leaders.
