Smoother Drive For Pengilley Avenue

Smoother Drive For Pengilley Avenue

A key Apollo Bay street will have an upgrade to improve access to the town’s school, medical centre and library.

Colac Otway Shire Council will sign a contract with a successful tenderer for the reconstruction of the road surface of Pengilley Avenue, between Gallipoli Avenue and McLachlan Street.

The road provides access to the Apollo Bay P12 Secondary School as well as the Apollo Bay Medical Centre, Great Ocean Road Health and the Apollo Bay Library.

The street’s renewal will ensure a safe and reliable road for the local community, businesses and visitors.

The works also include drainage infrastructure upgrades, repairs to damaged kerb and channel, footpaths and laybacks as well as new line-marking, signage and side entry pit lids.

There will also be improvements to the intersections of Pengilley Avenue, Gallipoli Parade and Ramsden Avenue, as well as Pengilley Avenue and McLachlan Street.

Quotes may be attributed to Mayor Jason Schram

“This work ensures the community will enjoy a safe and smooth ride along Pengilley Avenue, with a reliable road surface for all users.

“Upgrades will include better drainage, new line-marking, signage, and safer intersections, significantly enhancing road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

“This is a significant investment in the community’s infrastructure, safety, and economic strength.

“We thank the community for their patience during the road upgrade and ask all road users to drive to the conditions during this time. Council will work with key stakeholders such as the School and Hospital to minimise disturbance to these activities during construction”.

“This project comes at a time when Council is investing significantly into renewal of its sealed road network, with work due to start shortly on reconstruction of Mooleric Road north of Birregurra and Morely Avenue, Wye River. Other upgrades at Koonya Avenue and The Boulevard in Wye River, and Pascoe Street in Apollo Bay will be commencing later in the year after finalisation of design and tender processes.”

Council has budgeted $690,000 for the Pengilley Avenue project, with $390,000 coming from the Federal Government’s Roads To Recovery program.

The recommended tenderer is within the project budget allocation.

The successful tenderer and contract price will be listed on Council’s website promptly after unsuccessful tenderers are advised of the outcome of the tender process.
