Statement From Luan Walker

Liberal Party Victoria

Statement From Luan Walker

Regretfully I have some unfortunate news that I want to share with you all – I am stepping down as the Liberal Party’s candidate for Fraser due to an issue with my Vietnamese ancestry.

I was adopted as a child in Vietnam by generous Australian aid workers, who later registered me for Australian citizenship, and raised me in Australia. In August last year, I sought to apply to the Vietnamese Government to have my claims to Vietnamese citizenship renounced.

Unfortunately, my application for renunciation has not yet been approved by the Vietnamese Government, and because of the length of this delay, there is no certainty this will occur in time before the Federal election is called.

I want the Liberal Party to have the best chance it can in Fraser because we can’t afford three more years of Labor, and thus have withdrawn as candidate so that the Party has enough time to select a new candidate.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the Liberal Party for the opportunity to represent my community, and to my family and everyone who supported my campaign.

Once this citizenship matter has been resolved, I hope to be returning to public service in the future, at either the 2026 State election or 2028 Federal election.
