Today, we committed to scrapping a fifth tax, because there are too many taxes, they cost Victorians too much, and they’re hurting the economy.
Our commitment to axing stamp duty for first home buyers is about giving back to young Victorians and helping them into their first home.
In contrast, the Treasurer, who previously described her job as “fun”, asked attendees at a Melbourne property conference, “What is your favourite tax?”.
Attendees and Victorians more broadly know that this government has introduced or increased taxes and charges, sixty-one times – including thirty property taxes.
Is this Treasurer so tone deaf, that she doesn’t understand the impact of Labor’s taxes on the property sector and the economy more broadly?
Taxes are too high. Victorians are taxed too much. And this State Labor Government is now so out of touch, they think Victorians have ‘favourite’ taxes. They don’t.
The Treasurer’s foot in mouth comment exposes a much deeper problem with this Government and the need for a change at the next state election.
