Statement On Retirement Of Leonie Hiscutt
The Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, Leonie Hiscutt, has marked her last day in the Tasmanian Parliament.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said Leonie – a proud North West Coaster – has served the Montgomery electorate with distinction since 2013.
“Having been elected in 2013 to the seat of Montgomery in the Legislative Council, Leonie has spent the last decade fighting for and championing her region,” the Premier said.
“Appointed as Leader of Government Business in the Legislative Council in 2017, Leonie has been an outstanding Leader – managing the complexities that we often find in the Upper House with grace and at all times engaging respectfully with her colleagues.
“Leonie has excelled in the role, with the Government the beneficiary of her work ethic and good nature – that has resulted in complex legislation being passed through the Parliament.
“Being the local member has always been her priority. As she often said: “it’s the small things that make the position worthwhile, working behind the scenes and taking care of the individual”.
“It’s been a privilege to work with Leonie who has supported our Liberal Government to deliver a strong economy, create jobs and support regional Tasmania.
“On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, we wish her all the best for the future.”
Leonie Hiscutt will retire on the 23rd of May, at which point she will be the longest serving female Leader in Tasmania’s Legislative Council history.
