Strong Demand in Residential Activation Fund’s Debut
Strong interest in first round of Residential Activation Fund
- More than 100 applications have already commenced for the first round of the landmark Residential Activation Fund, open for applications until 23 May.
- First round prioritises “ready now” developments to fast-track critical housing infrastructure and get more Queenslanders into homes sooner.
- The Crisafulli Government’s $2 billion fund supports one million new homes by 2044, with 50 per cent of funding to be invested exclusively in regional Queensland, to ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
The Crisafulli Government’s landmark Residential Activation Fund has received overwhelming interest since opening, demonstrating demand from councils and landowners to kick-start housing and ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
In less than a month since opening, more than 100 funding applications have already commenced for round one of the $500 million fund.
The Crisafulli Government’s landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund guarantees $1 billion for regional Queensland, to deliver a place to call home for Queenslanders across the State.
The initiative will boost the construction of essential housing infrastructure such as water supply, lighting, sewerage, stormwater and roads, where more new homes are needed to unlock land and cater for a growing population.
Applicants with projects that are ready now, and those that demonstrate the location has urgent housing needs, will be very well regarded and they can apply for funding to build infrastructure for infill or greenfield sites.
Under the previous Labor Government, new housing approvals dropped 36 percent despite Queensland’s significant population growth, which locked Queenslanders out of housing and forced almost 50,000 people onto Labor’s social housing waitlist.
The regional Residential Activation Fund forms one of the building blocks of the Crisafulli Government’s Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan, which will unlock more land and deliver more Queenslanders their dream of home ownership.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the Residential Activation Fund would unlock more housing to ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
“The response to our Residential Activation Fund at this early stage is an impressive indication that there is strong demand to get in and deliver more homes sooner,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
“My department will be assessing these applications against criteria that rate highly a project’s readiness to start.
“This fund will enable councils and landowners to identify key infrastructure that is vital to catalysing one million new homes by 2044, to overturn Labor’s dismal record on Queensland housing into the highest rates of home ownership in Australia.
“We are unashamedly focussed on unlocking, building and boosting housing supply to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders.”
Applications for round one of the Residential Activation Fund will close on 23 May 2025.
