TasInsure To Reduce Grocery Prices
Groceries will be cheaper if the Tasmanian Liberal Government is re-elected.
TasInsure will offer affordable insurance to small businesses, which will in turn reduce the cost of groceries.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said that small grocers were being forced to pass on the costs of doing business onto consumers.
“With lower insurance premiums, small business can keep the price of goods and services – like groceries – low,” Premier Rockliff said.
“This is all about bringing the cost of living down for Tasmanian families.
“We’ve heard many stories about small businesses having to put their prices up to cover the rising cost of doing business, with insurance premiums increasing by more than 35 per cent over the past two years.
“These increases have meant that insurance has simply become unaffordable for many businesses in our State, driving prices of goods and services up and, in some cases, forcing the closure of small businesses.
“That’s why we are stepping in to support Tasmanian small businesses with a Tasmanian solution.
“TasInsure will put people before profits.
“It will mean small businesses see their insurance reduced by around 20 per cent, thousands per year, which will lower the cost of goods and services, reducing everyday items like grocery prices.
“TasInsure will be game-changing for our small businesses, giving them confidence and conditions they need to grow and thrive.
“It will be cheaper, fairer, ours.”
Robert Mallett, CEO for the Tasmanian Small Business Council, welcomed the announcement, saying that for many enterprises, insurance is among the top 3 or 4 of largest operating cost items and any reduction sees greater business certainty and potentially lower product and service costs for consumers.
“The increasing costs of insurance has been a motivating factor for many businesses to under insure or to not have it at all; potentially catastrophic when a sizeable event occurs,” Mr Mallett said.
“The TSBC appreciates that the Premier has listened to the myriad comments made to him by the TSBC that a barrier to more activity in the small business space is insurance costs.”
