Tasmania Welcomes Surge In Off-season Business Events
Tasmania has experienced a major boost to its visitor economy this May, with 12 business events bringing 3,379 delegates to the State, delivering over 10,000 room nights and generating an estimated $12 million in economic impact.
These figures represent a 55 per cent increase in delegate numbers and room nights compared to May 2024.
Premier and Minister for Tourism, Jeremy Rockliff, said this significant increase underscores Tasmania’s growing reputation as a standout destination for business events all year round.
“As part of our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are investing an additional $1.2 million in Business Events Tasmania to boost this industry across the State,” Premier Rockliff said.
“We are now seeing the results from this strategic investment, which is helping to grow our economy, back in this industry and support Tasmanian jobs.”
Business events are spread across the State, with Launceston playing a prominent role in showcasing regional Tasmania’s capabilities.
The city will host the Australian Hydrographers Association Conference 2025, attracting 250 delegates and featuring technical tours of key infrastructure such as the Trevallyn Dam and power station. Tasmania’s more than 100-year legacy in hydro development will be a centrepiece of the event, highlighting the State’s global leadership in clean energy and water management.
In Hobart, the College of Intensive Care Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting 2025 will bring together 380 leading specialists in intensive care, anaesthesia and emergency medicine. The event highlights Tasmania’s growing contribution to Australia’s medical and research sectors, and the State’s reputation for hosting high-calibre scientific and professional gatherings.
“These events not only drive economic benefit for local hotels, restaurants, and tourism operators, but also strengthen Tasmania’s identity as a destination known for innovation, excellence, and industry expertise,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Launceston’s prominent role this month also reflects the increasing interest in regional Tasmania as a business destination, offering unique venues, world-class infrastructure, and authentic local experiences.”
Tasmania’s business events calendar continues to grow in both scale and significance — bringing professionals, ideas, and investment into the state while supporting jobs and regional economies.
