Ten Days Of Nearly 10,000 Free Car Bookings

In ten days, more than 17,000 passengers have booked fares for themselves and nearly 10,000 passenger vehicles aboard Spirits of Tasmania vessels without paying a cent for those vehicles.

The free car fares were made possible thanks to the campaign ‘bring your car for free’ launched by TT-Line on 28 April 2025.

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, said that the campaign offers good value for money for Tasmanians, and reflects the growing popularity of Tasmania as a tourism destination for mainlanders.

“Unlike any other, Tasmania is Australia’s choose-your-own-adventure state: so, it’s no surprise that so many travellers choose to bring their car and explore their own way,” Minister Abetz said.

“We expect the good numbers to continue as Tourism Tasmania rolls out the off-season campaign ‘Become a Winter Person’, highlighting more than 500 built, natural and cultural experiences that can be enjoyed in our State.”

While the passengers’ departure dates are evenly spread out over six months, June is the most popular return date so far.

The TT-Line campaign is supported through a $27.8 million Tasmanian Government tourism and hospitality package which helps underpin this critical part of the economy.

Minister Abetz also noted the latest results of the Tasmanian Visitor Survey.

“We’ve had a great summer this year, welcoming to our shores 453,600 visitors between December and February, the most we’ve ever seen,” Mr Abetz said.

“That’s over $1.4 billion going to local businesses, creating wealth and supporting tens of thousands of jobs.”

The TT-Line free car fare is valid for travel between May 1 to October 31 until sold out.
