Thanking Our Hardworking Pharmacists
From the North West to the South of Tasmania, more than 900 dedicated pharmacists serve our local communities.
On Thank Your Pharmacist Day, the Tasmanian Government recognises their service.
Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Roger Jaensch, said pharmacists provide vital services, treatment and advice across a range of areas within our health system.
“These incredible health professionals are our medicines experts – They are the backbone of community pharmacies, our hospitals, aged care facilities and many other facilities,” Minister Jaensch said.
“They treat a broad range of health conditions from coughs, allergies, headaches and wound management through to a wide range of vaccinations.
“The Government strongly supports pharmacists and in 2023 we released the independent report into pharmacy scope of practice, which made 12 recommendations to further expand the services of this skilled workforce.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, significant progress has been made including providing treatment to more than 6500 Tasmanian women for urinary tract infections and we’ve extended the oral contraceptive pill prescription.
“We’ve also expanded continued dispensing arrangements meaning most prescriptions can be extended for an additional month where a patient has had difficulty getting to a GP – benefiting hundreds of Tasmanians every day.
“I thank our Tasmanian pharmacists for their vital contribution to supporting the community and their health.”
