Max asked the Parliamentary Library how much extra in rent renters paid last year. Turns it was $7 billion extra, or $3000 per household on average.

That means if rents were frozen for the last year, the average renter would have saved an extra $3000 over the year. That’s massive and would go a long way to tackling the cost of living crisis.

With rents increasing even faster this year, that means if we froze rents right now we could save the average renter over $3000 a year.

That’s exactly why we need a 2 year rent freeze.
