Homelessness is solvable.
The Greens will give every person experiencing chronic homelessness across Australia a secure home, and access to the wrap-around support services they need to get back on track – with no strings attached. With this plan, people won’t need to pass hurdles to prove that they’re worthy of a roof over their head, and are instead supported to manage complex personal, mental health or substance abuse issues while in a secure home.
The Greens plan follows successful international models such as Finland’s ‘Housing First’ program which has virtually eliminated chronic homelessness, and been successful in pilot projects in Australia – like Common Ground in Brisbane, which helps keep residents out of emergency departments, hospitals and the justice system, saving the government far more than the programs cost.
The Greens will keep Dutton out and push Labor to act to tackle the housing and homelessness crisis.
