It’s been 34 years since the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody were handed down.
Still the recommendations have not been implemented in full. STILL First Nations people continue to die in custody.
Now, the NT Police are refusing to support an independent inquiry into Kumanjayi White’s death.
The Greens back the family’s calls for an independent inquiry. It demands a transparent, culturally safe investigation free from police interference.
We must address the systemic racism that underpins over-incarceration rates for First Nations people, and join in solidarity with the family and First Nations communities to demand action.
