The Greens will lower the retirement age and raise the pension above the poverty line, allowing everyone to retire earlier on a liveable income.
Today there are 54,000 people over the age of 65 receiving JobSeeker, living on a payment that leaves them below the poverty line and unable to afford life essentials.
Thousands of other people over 65 are working minimum wage jobs, unable to retire while there is growing poverty crisis among older people.
By returning the pension age to 65 and lifting the pension above the poverty line, we can ensure a secure and dignified earlier retirement where everyone can afford the basics.
