Your eligibility to donate plasma or blood shouldn’t be determined by your sexuality or your gender.
For years the Greens & LGBTQIA+ community have called for the lifting of discriminatory restrictions for queer folk trying to donate. We welcome the changes to the eligibility criteria for plasma donation, bringing us closer in line with similar reforms in the UK, US, Canada & NZ.
This is an important step towards much needed and long awaited reform, but all discrimination must be removed from Australia’s blood donation framework.
