New laws have been introduced to ban harmful conversion practices. This is welcome and long overdue reform that the Greens, victim-survivors and advocates have been fighting for for years. These laws will drag
NSW to the minimum standard already in other jurisdictions. But NSW still has the worst laws in the country for LGBTIQA+ people and those most impacted are outside of inner Sydney. Along with the implementation of these new laws, we need the state government to adopt the recommendations of the Inquiry into LGBTIQ hate crimes, and prioritise reforming the Anti-Discrimination Act and passing the Equality Bill to ensure equality without exceptions for every person in NSW.
The Greens hope that our colleagues in Parliament will hear the important voices of victim-survivors as we consider this bill in the coming weeks.
