The Greens NSW

Today is the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance.

Enforced disappearances are a tactic of suppression used by dictators and oppressive regimes to spread fear and terror amongst citizens. These governments often target human rights defenders, the families of those defenders, key witnesses to corruption or a crime, or lawyers— often leaving the families of victims with no idea where their loved one has gone or if they’ll ever return.

Thank you to the South Asian Policy Initiative and Global Voices for Humanity for organising today’s rally outside of NSW Parliament House to raise awareness about the prevalence of Enforced Disappearances in our neighbouring countries. And thank you David Shoebridge and Lee Rhiannon for speaking.
