We are in a rental crisis. Rents have gone up 12% in Sydney and 15% regionally this year alone, in a market where hospitality workers were already giving 48% of their income to rent. People on Youth allowance are giving about 83% of their income to rent.
There is so much we can do to fix this— right now. We can ban rent bidding, cap rent increases to inflation, stop intrusive rental applications, end no-grounds evictions, and (in the long-term), massively invest in more public and affordable housing.
