BREAKING: The Greens have secured significant changes to Labor’s safeguard mechanism that will stop many of the 116 new coal and gas mines, will ensure pollution goes down, and will derail the Beetaloo & Barossa gas fields.
Our amendments will:
– Stop many of the 116 new projects in the investment pipeline
– Cap pollution and bring it down
– Derail the huge Beetaloo and Barossa Gas projects
– Make it much harder for new coal and gas to go ahead
– Rein in dodgy offset projects
– Increase methane monitoring and reporting
– Stop coal and gas funding from many sources
– Speed up the transition across sectors
This is what you put us in Parliament to do.
The stronger our movement is on the streets, the more Greens we can get elected to parliament, the more action we can take.
But the fight is not over. In a climate crisis, Labor still wants to open more coal and gas. We’ll continue to push to strengthen environmental laws that will come before Parliament next year and end fossil fuel subsidies in the budget.
We’ll keep fighting until we stop new coal and gas.
The only obstacle to stopping ALL new coal and gas is Labor.
