Television Interview - Flashpoint WA

The Hon Bill Shorten MP

$25.5m in Medicare benefits paid

The Australian Government’s delivered more than $25 million in unpaid Medicare benefits to over 116,000 Aussies.

All they had to do was update their bank details with Medicare.

Minister for Government Services, the Hon. Bill Shorten MP said there’s millions more to pay.

“Many Australians are doing it tough right now with cost of living pressures, and getting some money owed by Medicare will help”, Minister Shorten said.

“In just 60 days, nearly half a million dollars a day has been paid to everyday Aussie’s owed unclaimed money from Medicare.

“There is still $200 million in unpaid Medicare to be claimed and we’re calling on people to get money owed to them.

“It takes less than a minute to update your bank details once you link Medicare to your myGov account.

“The myGov app makes it easy to check and update details anywhere, anytime.

“We’re sending inbox messages through myGov to eligible Australians. You just need to have an active account and unpaid benefits.

“Use the myGov app to update your details or go to servicesaustralia.gov.au/getmedicarebenefits.”

Check and update your bank details using:

  • your Medicare online account through myGov
  •  the Express Plus Medicare app
  • your linked Medicare service on the myGov app.

You can also call 132 011 or visit your nearest service centre.

It’s important to be wary of scams pretending to be myGov or Medicare. Services Australia won’t ask you to open a link in a text message. To securely sign in to myGov, go to my.gov.au or use the official myGov app.
