Scaling Up Success for Indigenous students in remote WA

Indigenous students in 14 remote schools in Western Australia will benefit from a new education program starting in Term 1 that aims to close the gap in reading and writing.

The Commonwealth and WA Governments are partnering to deliver the Scaling Up Success in Remote Schools Program at schools in the Goldfields and Midwest regions.

The Program focuses on supporting teachers through effective collaboration, implementing evidence-based teaching practices, lifting school attendance, and working in partnership with parents and the community.

The Albanese Government has committed $10 million over four years to implement this Closing the Gap initiative in schools with a high proportion of Indigenous students.

A project team will provide coaching and advice for school leaders and teachers, facilitate community co-design and co-delivery of the program and provide advice on learning and teaching materials.

A list of participating schools are available on the Department of Education website

Quotes attributable to Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare:

“This wrap-around program will help Indigenous students, in the classroom and in their communities.”

Quotes attributable to WA Minister for Education Dr Tony Buti:

“As the WA Minister for both Education and Aboriginal Affairs, I am excited about the creation of this new program that will assist in closing the education gap.

“It is critically important Indigenous students in remote communities have the support they need to attend and stay engaged at school.”
