Visit to Timor-Leste and Nauru
This week I will travel to Timor-Leste and Nauru to further strengthen our deep and longstanding partnerships with two of our closest partners.
Timor-Leste and Australia enjoy a strong partnership and close friendship, underpinned by deep historical and cultural links. Australia remains Timor-Leste’s largest development and security partner.
In Dili I will meet Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and other senior government ministers.
Australia and Nauru have a strong and enduring partnership, supported by our shared history and close ties between our people.
As Nauru’s largest development partner, we are investing in inclusive economic growth, sustainable infrastructure, jobs, skills and connectivity to ensure prosperity for communities now and for generations to come. Australia and Nauru also have decades of defence and law enforcement cooperation, working together to meet Nauru’s security priorities.
During my visit, I will participate in Nauru’s Independence Day celebrations and meet with President David Adeang, Foreign Minister Lionel Aingimea and Cabinet ministers.
These relationships are important to Australia and we remain committed to working together to develop our existing partnerships and build a region that is peaceful, stable and prosperous.
