Honorary Freeman bestowed on Wyalkatchem local David Holdsworth
Member for Central Wheatbelt Hon Mia Davies MLA has congratulated Mr David Holdsworth on becoming only the fifth Honorary Freeman of the Shire of Wyalkatchem.
Presenting the honour alongside Shire President Cr Quentin Davies, Ms Davies spoke of the significant contribution Mr Holdsworth had made to Wyalkatchem over his lifetime.
“Mr Holdsworth has instigated and supported many community projects, served on committees, as a Deputy Shire President and Councillor, and built and managed his large family-owned transport business,” Ms Davies said.
“There is no doubt he is worthy of the honour, and this was expressed many times over by those that joined David and his family for the announcement at the Wyalkatchem Community Club.”
Ms Davies said D&D Transport was a visible and tangible commitment to the town – with every bright yellow truck leaving the yard painted with ‘Wyalkatchem’.
“It is a testament to David’s commitment to town that the business has maintained the office and yard in Wylie and added services to the business over the years to serve the needs of the town, district and state.”
In addition to his entrepreneurial pursuits, David has been a member of the Wyalkatchem-Koorda District Hospital Board, President of the Infant Health Care Committee, a member of the Tidy Towns Committee and tireless worker – donating machinery for improvements within the townsite, a member and currently President of the Agricultural Museum.
Committed to looking after the town’s seniors, he is also a member of the Senior Citizens Homes Trust, previously on the TrachMach Committee and the driving force behind a group that become the Wyalkatchem Development Group that delivered a sealed airstrip for the community.
In 2002, David received an Australia Day WA Community Citizen of the Year Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution and community service to the people and State of Western Australia.
In 2007 he became a Shire Councillor, a position he held for eight years, continuing his hard work to represent the residents of Wyalkatchem.
