Opposition Leader announces new Shadow Minister roles

Opposition Leader and Leader of The Nationals WA Shane Love today appointed the Honourable Louise Kingston to his Shadow Cabinet. The new Member of the Legislative Council represents the South West Region, as part of The Nationals WA team.

Mr Love made the announcement while in Albany, as he and Mrs Kingston toured the South West Region in the new Member’s first official visit to her electorate.

In her new roles, Mrs Kingston will take on the critical responsibilities of Shadow Minister for Climate Action and Shadow Minister for Regional Cities. Mrs Kingston’s appointment will enhance the opportunity to provide a robust, well-informed, and constructive Opposition in the best interests of West Australians.

“Her experience, dedication, and passion for serving her community make her an excellent addition to our team. I have no doubt that she will play a vital role in holding the Cook Labor Government to account.”

Mrs Kingston said it was an honour to have been appointed to the Shadow Cabinet.

“I am fully committed to working tirelessly alongside my colleagues to ensure the Cook Labor Government remains accountable to West Australians,” said Mrs Kingston.

“From Broome to Esperance and everywhere in between, the regions are the engine room of Western Australia. Regional cities play a pivotal role as an important part of the picture, providing vital services like health, education, and commerce to our smaller communities.

Mrs Kingston said new forms of energy generation were key to a lower carbon future, but she would work to ensure that does not come at the cost of regional West Australians.

“The Opposition believes that regional communities should benefit from but not bear the sole cost of a shift to a lower carbon future.

“It’s imperative we provide the framework and infrastructure needed for all of Western Australia to benefit from new forms of energy generation and that investment is made in regional communities.”
